I am not using my name so that I may convey, in the most honest way I know how, my experience at Spero. I have been to upwards of 20 different treatment centers and at least 15 sober living environments, multiple detoxes, and a couple of psych wards. Some people have even suggested that I write a book on all the rehabs I’ve been to around the country. Well I did get sober on quite a few occasions; but none of them were for very long. Basically, I feel that I have a very objective view of Spero and all the staff. So when I recently relapsed and landed at Spero I was skeptical. But I was soon to discover what makes Spero different. There is a guy at Spero named Billy and he would pick me up on a couple different occasions when I would call and tell him I was ready to come in. The patience and love coupled with the true understanding of what I was going through gained my trust immediately. I was a tough case, a hard core cocaine addict, with way too much education about recovery to want to try treatment again. Some programs talk about an individualized program to meet the needs of their clients, but at Spero they actually backed it up!

I just wanted to take a moment and thank you personally for all the time and effort you and your AMAZING staff put in to help my daughter Elizabeth. When Elizabeth entered your facility, her mother and I could only be described as desperate to get our beautiful daughter back. We had been to other facilities and experienced disappointment at every turn. Then we found Spero Retreat and life truly has not been the same since. Thanks to the outstanding care she received at Spero, we have our daughter back in mind, body and spirit. She has returned to school, is hanging out with a new group of friends and the future has never looked brighter for her (or us).

When you think of Beverly Hills, a lot of things come to mind - luxury, opulence and the celebrity lifestyle all among them. One thing you don’t probably think of is “a new lease on life”, but that is exactly what I found in Beverly Hills at the Spero Retreat. As an accountant, I need to see hard data in order to make something work for me - and this exactly when Spero Retreat is all about. They did some pretty extensive testing and analysis of my brain and body, but in the end I truly believe it was the knowledge they gained from the results that led to my effective treatment.

Had to take a moment and send my warmest regards from here in sunny Florida. Things have been going great since my treatment at Spero Retreat. I have been clean and sober for the past three months and use the lessons and strategies I learned at Spero every day to help me stay that way! There isn’t a day that goes by where I don’t think about what would have happened to me if I hadn’t picked up the phone and called you earlier this year. It sounds like a commercial, but it truly was the most important phone call I have ever made. When I came to you, I had never heard of processes like SPECT scans or hormonal assessments, but you patiently showed me the importance of each of these tests and how they could help figure out what was going on inside my brain that was causing my addiction. My wife and I were recently taking a walk down the beach in Hawaii, when she looked at me and said that she “honestly, never thought we would be here.” That really hit home and made me think about the state of my life before I enrolled at the Spero Retreat. When I first arrived for treatment at Spero Retreat, I have to tell you that I was VERY skeptical. I mean, I had never heard of some of the methods they were using, but having tried everything else to break free from my addiction to Vicodin and OxyContin, I decided to give them try. Now here we are months later and everything is go great in my life. I have been drug-free since I left the facility and am currently getting support from my family, the people in my 12-step program and the staff at Spero who has followed up with me regularly since I left the program.
Please know that if you do nothing else in this world, you have made my life worth living again.

For me, one of the most important elements of the Spero treatment program was the fact that I was able to move at my own pace. Even though there was always an urgency to getting me well, I never felt “rushed out the door” or that I had to get better soon because my time in the program was almost up. Instead, my counselors and rest of the Spero staff help me gently integrate back into the real world (if you can call Los Angeles the “real world”) and went so far as to accompany me to work and several family gatherings that would have been incredibly stressful had I not had someone who truly understood the nature of my recovery and was completely supportive there with me. I did my homework before I went to Spero, and I have learned about other programs since I left - and I can honestly say, there is no other program like it in Los Angeles or anywhere else in the country for that matter.
